Welcome to Vocably

Vocably is a dictionary and flashcards in one app. Look up the words you come across, save the ones you want to remember, and study them for a few minutes a day.

  • Dictionary

    See translations, pronunciation, and examples for any word or phrase.

  • Save

    Add the words you want to remember to your cards with one tap.

  • Study

    Spaced repetition brings each word back right before you’d forget it.

On iPhone, Vocably also works in Safari: select a word on any web page to translate it. Set up Vocably for Safari

Build your word list

  1. Open the Dictionary tab

    The first time you open Vocably, My cards is empty. Tap Dictionary at the bottom of the screen to find your first word.

  2. Choose your languages

    At the top of the screen, tap the left button to pick the language you’re learning, and the right button to pick a language you already know.

  3. Look up a word you came across

    Type the word in the search field and tap . Vocably shows its translations, pronunciation, and examples.

  4. Find the word you want to say

    Don’t know how to say something in the language you’re learning? Type it in the language you know. Vocably detects the language automatically and shows the words you’re looking for.

    Pick the best matches and tap to save them.

    Some words are spelled the same in both languages. To make Vocably search in the language you know, tap between the two languages.

Learn your words

  1. Study every day

    Open My cards and tap Study. Vocably shows the cards planned for today.

    Vocably uses spaced repetition (SRS). Each word comes back right before you’re likely to forget it. Words you know well show up less often, and the ones you struggle with come back sooner.

    • A few minutes a day is enough. Short daily sessions work better than long ones once a week.
    • Words move to long-term memory, so you remember them for months, not days.
    • No time wasted on words you already know.
